The Watcher
Original Oil Painting 20" x 24"
Framed $1,500 CAD

For Mother's Day 2009 my daughters and I drove to Golden, BC via Jasper & Banff and then onto Calgary, AB to photograph wolves and other wildlife. In Golden we walked with Mia, an alpha female from the Northern Lights Wildlife Wolf Centre. Casey, Mia's handler took us 9 kilometres off road where we were able to hike with this beautiful wolf for a couple of hours. Mia is not a pet. She is however tolerant of calm people who respect her space. She spent a lot of time in the bush enjoying her freedom, which gave us a chance to get some very natural photos. She'd also almost posed when coaxed with deer meat as a reward, so I was able to get some exceptionally close photos. Though I've photographed wolves in the wild, they never let me get too close. Between the Centre and a very natural zoo exhibit in Calgary I was able to get some excellent reference material for paintings, enabling me to observe wolves unique behaviours and capture very fine details.

Sunset Reflections on Ice
Original Oil Painting 12" x 24"
Framed $900 CAD

Living on Francois Lake gives me the opportunity to witness almost fairy tale sunsets and sunrises as in this case. In minus 20 and 30 degree temperatures frost and mist are common as well as the sun and moon light reflecting of the ice in varying colours.

Grizzly, Kronotsky River, Russia
Original Oil Painting 8" x 24"
Framed $600 CAD

I flew to Russia September 2006 with friend John Packowsky and his friend fellow biologist Mike Gibeau. John's been researching brown bears in the Kronotsky Preserve on Kamchatka's east coast for five years, prior to this John helped me with the Northern Bear Awareness program in Prince George. I loved the opportunity to study and photograph these fascinating creatures along with stellar eagles, reindeer, and seals in Russia's unique and fascinating volcanic landscape.

Knight of the Lake
2006 Ducks Unlimited Canada National Art Portfolio Recipient
Image size: 15" x 30"
Framed $1350 CAD

Enroute to Babine Lake to photograph grizzlies in mid October, my husband Larry and I pulled into this lonely little lake off the beaten trail just before dark. This very peaceful isolated place, with an eagle flying over and a moose leaving the scene created this memorable moment that I captured on canvas.

A Walk in the Park
Original Oil Painting 15" x 30"
Framed $1,350 CAD

While exploring the west end of Francois Lake I found a trail that followed Norse creek as it flows down the mountain along a ravine. The view was spectacular as you climb above the lake and the deer are plentiful in this area. On the opposite side of the creek you'll see massive red hoodoos. On the trail side unique poplar stands such as you see in this painting and, all along the creek a series of beautiful waterfalls and pools.

Alerted (Elk in Velvet)
Original Oil Painting 24" x 30"
Framed $2,150 CAD

By mid summer a bull elk's antlers are fully formed, but are still in velvet and appear abnormally large. Photographing this impressive bull near Jasper, National Park was a real thrill. I'd pulled over and was trying to photograph this departing elk when my vehicle's wipers screeched across the window causing the bull to swing around, creating the perfect photo opportunity and subsequent painting.

Resting
Original Oil Painting 18" x 24"
(Sorry, gone to a private collection)
Come late December and early January moose settle in for the winter after a long rut and hunting season and become quite tolerant. When these opportunities arise I like to take the time to studying and photograph these interesting and often companionable ungulates.
